Overview
We all know that life has ups and downs. It’s just how life is. There are times when you’re happy, loved, safe, and healthy – and times when you aren’t, or when your loved ones aren’t. Sometimes you get the big break / job / love affair / recognition, and sometimes you don’t. Sometimes what you have feels like enough, and sometimes it doesn’t. Everything changes.
In the fast rhythm of life, we generally forget this very important truth and feel sad more than normal in the down times and can not feel happiness enough in the up times.
To remind us of this very important truth and help you move through life, we needed something that reflected and brought this perspective to our attention.
So we have conceived a sculptural lighting design that reflects the flow perspective. It is an heirloom and can be passed down through the generations.
"The ups and downs, the problems and stress, along with all the happiness, have given me optimism and hope because I am living proof of survival."
Elizabeth Taylor
"Life has its ups and downs, and time has to be your partner. Really, time is your soul mate."
Bob Dylan
"Whatever the ups and downs of detail within our limited experience, the larger whole is primarily beautiful."
Gregory Bateson
"Hope is a good thing and good things never die."
Shawshank Redemption
How it all started
In the vast expanse of the ocean, waves dance to the rhythm of life’s eternal symphony, embodying the undulating journey we all traverse. Inspired by the sea’s relentless movement, the “Hope” lighting sculpture captures the essence of life’s ebbs and flows, celebrating both the highs and the lows that define our existence.
The first image encapsulates this narrative of life’s perpetual motion. With every rise and fall, “Hope” speaks of resilience and beauty, echoing the wisdom that even in the depths, there is value and splendor. Crafted from bronze and Murano glass, each material symbolizes the duality of life’s experiences. Bronze, with its ancient heritage, stands for strength and stability, while Murano glass, delicate yet enduring, signifies clarity and transformation. In the design, sometimes the ups are Murano glass, translucent and light, other times they are bronze, solid and firm. Similarly, the downs alternate between these materials, underscoring that every moment, whether bright or dark, holds its own unique beauty and significance.
The second inspiration comes from the grand sea creatures that glide through the underwater realms, embodying grace and mystery. This majestic presence aligns perfectly with the golden ratio, a timeless measure of beauty found in nature’s most stunning creations. The intricate curves and flowing lines of the sculpture reflect this natural elegance, offering a visual harmony that soothes and inspires.
The third inspiration, drawn from the film “The Tree of Life,” infuses the design with a sense of wonder and introspection. This cinematic masterpiece explores the interconnectedness of all things, much like the design of “Hope,” which integrates ancient materials and modern aesthetics to create a piece that transcends time and space.
The sketches that followed these inspirations guided the creation of the final design you see on the page. Each line and curve in the drawings represents a deliberate contemplation of life’s journey, translating abstract thoughts into tangible form.
“Hope” is more than a lighting fixture; it is a testament to the journey of life. It reminds us that every rise and fall is part of a greater, beautiful whole, and that within each moment, there lies a potential for light and transformation. Let this sculptural piece illuminate your space with the profound elegance of life’s endless dance.
